This category features a range of non-residential (in-home and community-based) services for older people in Australia. Most are focused on helping aged persons to remain living in their own home longer.
Aged care services are provided by private, public and not-for-profit providers. They include services that focus on a specific aspect of assistance and those that offer a co-ordinated range of services. For example, Home and Community Care (HACC) may include personal care, domestic assistance, nursing care, allied health care, food services and home maintenance, amongst other services. A Community Aged Care Package (CACP) is a coordinated package through a care manager, available to aged persons eligible for low level residential care. The Extended Aged Care at Home Package (EACH) is another coordinated package of care, available to people eligible for high level residential aged care. Both CACP and EACH require an assessment by an Aged Care Assessment Team.
Some aged care services are designed to meet specific needs, such as memory clinics, meals on wheels and dementia support. Others aim to meet the care needs of specific groups, such as culture, religion-specific and occupation-specific services. For example, the Australian Government Department of Veterans Affairs provides Veterans Home Care for eligible aged persons.
Private aged care providers and nursing agencies offer a variety of services tailored to individual needs. Some of these are also featured in the categories under Home care.
