Play Therapy for children 3 - 12 years with emotional, social & behavioural difficulties,
Play Therapy allows your child to play out their worries and concerns with support from the Play Therapist.
Discover Me Occupational Therapy has a specially designed playroom with creative media, role play equipment and a variety of therapeutic toys.
As an Occupational Therapist I have specialist knowledge about child development and the impact emotional, social and behavioural problems may have on the child, their family, school and social environments.
Play Therapy can be helpful to assist parents, caregivers and teachers to understand what the child is experiencing persistent:
- Emotional Difficulties - anxiety, insecurity and dependent on others, separation anxiety, negative thoughts, worries and fears, low mood, aggression and anger.
- Social Difficulties - withdrawing from others, difficulty making and keeping friends, bullying behaviour, being bullied, excessive clingyness, sibling rivalry, poor bonding and attachment
- Behavioural - refusing to go to school/day care, poor self-confidence affecting learning, disruptive in class
- Traumatic Life Event or Situation - abuse, death of a close family member, traumatic divorce, chronic illness or frequent hospitalisations, witness or victim of a traumatic event, foster care and adoption issues.
My approach is collaborative so when requested strategies will be given to assist the child linked with the play therapy process.
