What is an Exercise Physiologist?
The term Exercise Physiologist (E.P) describes professionals from within the field of exercise science who are specialised in exercise rehabilitation streams.
As knowledge in the area of physical conditioning and rehabilitation has increased, the need for E.P’s as specialists in the field of exercise programming and disease prevention has become essential.
An E.P is ideally suited to providing professional services in the area of exercise as a treatment strategy in physical rehabilitation, as a preventative strategy for disease prevention, and work hardening as part of establishing and sustaining functional independence.

An Exercise Physiologist:
- Is Tertiary qualified with post graduate study in Exercise Rehabilitation
- Works closely with other health professionals to get the best result for the patient
- Assesses and designs tailored exercise programs for all types of people, including those with:
- Musculo-skeletal and joint problems: back, shoulder, hip, knee etc.
- Lifestyle related complications such as: diabetes, cardio-vascular disease, hypertension, obesity.
- Arthritis.
- Muscular weakness.
- Balance problems and falls prevention.
- Provides services under Medicare Team Care Arrangements (see your G.P)
- Provides services to Workcover patients (please see your treating practitioner).
- Provides regular reports to G.P and other treating clinicians on patient progress
