Hypnotherapy
Daniel D'Appio, Clinical Hypnotherapist
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a totally natural state of mind. When under hypnosis you will feel very relaxed, just like that wonderful feeling when you are tired lying in your bed and you are so overcome with comfort that you wish the moment could last forever.
Through simple hypnotic, relaxation techniques you can easily attain this state where it becomes easy, with the help of a qualified hypnotherapist, to visualise yourself becoming healthier, happier, more confident, or even a non-smoker. Whatever it is that you want to be!
"In therapy, hypnosis usually involves the person experiencing a sense of deep relaxation with their attention narrowed down, and focused on appropriate suggestions made by the therapist."
These suggestions help people make positive changes within themselves. Long gone are the days when hypnosis was seen as waving watches and controlling people’s minds. In a hypnotherapy session you are always in control and you are not made to do anything.
Hypnotherapy is not about being made to do things, in fact it is the opposite, it is about empowerment!
Hypnotherapy is a two way process between the therapist and the client,a professional partnership.
A person cannot be hypnotised unless they agree to it and co-operate. Whilst hypnotised, nobody can make you do anything that you don’t want to do.
Even those people on television eating raw onions and pretending to be rockstar are doing it because they want to! They have chosen to participate.
I would like to emphasise here that what hypnotherapists do is, by definition, therapeutic.
The first stage of a hypnotherapy consultation will involve an informal chat and some questions to ascertain the nature of the issue and the necessary route to overcoming or dealing with it.
The next stage is hypnosis. You are led, by means of the hypnotherapist’s gently guiding voice, into a state where your body and mind are deeply relaxed.
To an onlooker it might seem as if you were totally asleep but in fact, though you will normally feel very relaxed, you will remain awake and aware.
Those parts of your mind that the therapist is working with to induce beneficial changes will also be awake and aware.
This means that you will be ‘picturing’, like a daydream, the things that are being spoken of and that you will experience pleasant feelings.

"I went to Daniel for help to resolve some deep emotional issues with someone from my past from almost 15 years ago. After two sessions my life changed. No longer was i constantly plagued by thoughts and feelings of the past. I learned to let go of anger, fear and close a door on a very difficult part of my life.
