Injury Management/ Soft Tissue Therapy/ Exercise Physiology

Daniel O'Sullivan B.AppSci.

Accelr8 Rehabilitation provides injury management through soft tissue therapy and prescribed, supervised exercise to the residents of Canberra. Soft Tissue Therapy is the skilled manipulation of soft tissue for the relief and treatment of muscle soreness and pain; the maintenance of muscle balance and the enhanced rehabilitation from injury. Together with the soft tissue therapy, specific exercise prescription provides the stability and postural control which is evidently lacking in many musculoskeletal conditions.

On consultation with Accelr8 Rehab you will receive a detailed assessment of your condition/injury utilising many common orthopaedic tests, and from this, a treatment plan will be established.

Muscle and Fascia Physiology is the prime focus of a soft tissue therapist. This aspect of an injury is often overlooked by physiotherapists, chiropractors and GP's. In Particular the focus of a treatment session is on referred pain from myofascial trigger points, which are in summary, tender points in soft tissue that radiate or refer pain to distant areas.

Soft Tissue Therapy is a science, which incorporates remedial massage, trigger point therapy and other modalities, with of course accompanying exercise and strength training. A constant build-up of tension in the muscles from regular activity, or postural dysfunction through your occupation may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons, as well as the muscles themselves. Often if left, this can become a chronic problem, leading to further injuries, or consistent aggravation of the initial injury. A Soft Tissue Therapist will be able to detect variations in the soft tissues, reduce muscle tension and restore balance to the musculoskeletal system.

If at any stage a Soft Tissue Therapist at Accelr8 Rehab thinks that the injury or dysfunction is beyond their knowledge, the appropriate referral will be made to a Sports Physician, physiotherapist or another allied health professional.
