Modern Hair Transplantation
Dr. Richard C. Shiell
Modern hair transplant surgery involves taking a strip of skin from the back of the scalp, which is then divided and sutured to selected areas with dissolving stitches.
The strip is divided under a microscope into tiny groups of one, two and three hairs (Follicular Units) which are then placed into the balding area into tiny needle holes.
The hairs match the natural hair direction, so the transplants are difficult to detect. The procedure leaves some fine scars hidden under the hair.
Sedation and local anaesthetic is used so you don't experience pain.
The grafts begin growing in three months. They grow quicker on non-smokers and users of Minoxidil lotion. The hairs continue to grow naturally.
