The Juliana Village was officially opened in 1980, born out of the
determination of Mr Johan Logeman who foresaw the needs of the
ageing Dutch migrants. After many years of fundraising, countless
donations and seeking professional advice and guidance, the village
was established as a not-for-profit benevolent institution.
It has always been and remains the aim of the Village, to offer stability, security, opportunity for individual independence, companionship and tolerance of all nationalities.
In 1983, Logeman Court, comprising 29 self-care units, was
opened - completing the development of the Village to 40 hostel and
54 self-care units. It should be noted that self-care units come
under State legislation and hostel units under Federal
legislation.
The Village grounds boast year round floral displays in the
surrounding gardens, occasional seating along the meandering
pathways throughout the Village and some car parking spaces on
site.
Hostel and self-care units
There are one and two bedroom self-care units each with a
north-facing balcony, a kitchenette and bathroom with
adequate space for laundry items. All units are fitted with at
least two 24 hour emergency buttons. On payment of a $200
refundable deposit, prospective residents are placed on the waiting
list.
The hostel apartments vary in size between 28 and 41 squire metres
and comprise a bedsitter, spacious bathroom and kitchenette with
some two bedroom units suitable for couples.
All hostel units are in close proximity to the dining rooms and
personal carer's office, and experienced staff are on call 24
hours. Hostel units are provided with personal care, cleaning,
laundry, provision of meals, activities and respite services.
Prospective residents need to be assessed by the Aged Care
Assessment Team before being eligible for accredited hostel care
accommodation.

Services
Within 500 m of the Village, residents have access to a state
the art hospital, medical and specialist services, the Miranda
Westfield Shopping Complex, railway station, taxi rank and bus
stops.
On-site facilities include a library, with English and Dutch
reading material, maintained by residents; a hairdresser; a
'shoppe' run by residents; a recreation room - used for meetings,
exercises, coffee mornings, video screenings, games and Foxtel. Bus
outings and craft classes are organised and participation is
encouraged as is companionship and interests and hobbies.
The residents of the Village organise their own committee to
oversee activities such as the yearly market day, birthday and
anniversary celebrations, excursions and meetings. The practice of
a 'buddy' system is an on-going consideration for both hostel and
self-care residents.
Community Aged Care Packages
The Juliana Village together with The Abel Tasman Village benefit
from the supportive networking program they have in place.
Community Aged Care Packages is one such program which is designed
to help people with multiple care needs and who wish to remain
living in their own home or who reside in self-care. The types of
services offered as part of the package include help with Respite
care, Personal care, Dressing, Meals, Transport, Laundry and Social
activities.
To be eligible to receive a care package, the prospective client's
needs must first be assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team
(ACAT). This assessment is free and the clients' doctor will be
able to provide further information or put one in touch with the
Aged Care Information Line on 1800 500 583.
Volunteers
The Village gratefully receives regular visits from
local volunteers who generously give their time to help in a
variety of tasks.
