General Practitioners - Australia

General Practitioners in Australia are the frontline of health care, carrying out more diagnosis than any other specialty. GP employment is available across the country and allows for flexible working lives. General Practitioners in Australia generally work in private practice, and distinct from hospital employment. Therefore applicants with comparable experience are preferred.

Overseas trained GPs in Australia are required to work in designated ‘districts of workforce shortage’ (DWS) for 10 years. This isn’t as bad it sounds. There are plenty of good DWS jobs available not far from capital cities.

• Employers prefer Doctors with postgraduate General Practice (GP) qualifications (like MRCGP, CFPC, Master of Family Medicine etc) plus a minimum of 3 years of full-time postgraduate GP experience.
• Medical experience obtained in health systems comparable to Australia is definitely preferred (for example NZ, USA, Canada, UK & Ireland).

Please do not apply unless you have the required qualifications and experience noted above.

We endeavour to make the processes as straightforward as possible and you can be assured of honest and experienced service. Assistance for the submission of applications for registration and Australian work visa are provided free of charge to candidates who have secured a job through our agency. We also provide legal advice and assistance for temporary and permanent visas, not just for medical practitioners, and welcome all enquiries (MARN1067936).
