Haematologists in Australia hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRACPA), or both.
The discipline is changing rapidly, in line with technological advances. The haematology field is wide, therefore, haematologists tend to specialise in a narrower area of haematology or disease types such haemato-oncology, anaemias, haemoglobinopathy, coagulation disorders, molecular haematology, autoimmune diseases, blood transfusion and paediatric haematology.
Societies for specialists in this field include the Haematology Society of Australia & New Zealand (HSANZ), the Australian & New Zealand Society of Blood Transfusion (ANZSBT) and the Australasian Society of Haemostasis and Thrombosis (ASTH).
