Nephrologists are renal medicine physicians. They are trained in kidney diseases, kidney transplantation, and dialysis therapy. Nephrologists may develop a special interest in renal transplant, dialysis or pediatric nephrology and practice in that area.
Nephrologists in Australia are represented by the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology. They may also obtain membership in the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology.
Nephrologists are Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or have equivalent overseas qualifications.
