Medical specialists - Sports medicine


Medical specialists in sports medicine are physicians treating injuries or illnesses resulting from participation in sports and athletic activities. Some specialists work in the area of exercise safety and risk minimisation.

The Australian Medical Council recognised sports medicine as a medical specialty in 2007. Specialists in this area are qualified in sport and exercise medicine, are Fellows of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians and use the post-nominals FACSP.

Sports Medicine Australia is a multi-disciplinary body, representing health professionals working in this field.
