Specialist Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon

Epworth Breast Service is a specialist multi-disciplinary breast service providing rapid access, integrated, patient-centred care, delivered by a dedicated team with onsite access to all diagnostic and treatment modalities including radiotherapy with access to a breast care nurse for all patients.

Jane O’Brien (centre) is a specialist breast surgeon whose practice is exclusively confined to breast work, encompassing the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of all benign and malignant conditions of the breast and surveillance of high risk groups.

Following advanced surgical training, she completed a two year breast fellowship and worked as a consultant breast surgeon in the United Kingdom for eight years. She has public appointments at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Breastscreen Victoria and in March 2005 established the Epworth Breast Service, a private specialist facility providing rapid-access, integrated, patient-centred care, delivered by a multidisciplinary team including a full-time breast care nurse (above left) with onsite access to all diagnostic and treatment modalities including breast MRI, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Jane O’Brien has interests in breast reconstruction, sentinel node biopsy and the organisation and delivery of multidisciplinary breast cancer care. Her main area of special interest and expertise is in “oncoplastic” breast surgery, aimed at maximising cosmetic results following breast conservation surgery for breast cancer using advanced surgical techniques
