(ADEC)

WHO CAN BE ASSISTED BY ADEC?
People who require culturally specific services. ADEC provides services to clients with physical, intellectual,
psychological, acquired, or sensory disabilities. ADEC also provides these services for clients who are the carers, families, and significant others of people with disabilities.

Older people experiencing increasing levels of frailty or age-related disability.

Generic services, community organisations, and individuals seeking information, education, research, and planning support.

ABOUT THE SERVICE
Individual Advocacy
Individual Advocates support people from ethnic backgrounds who have a disability and their carers to exercise their rights and achieve their goals.
Multicultural Family Respite Service
This is a friendly visiting service that matches volunteers to clients with disabilities, giving their carers time to pursue other activities.
Information
ADEC provides a range of information to interested people, service providers, government, and clients so that all people can make better informed decisions. ADEC also provides information about many other related services.
The Community Reference Group
The group is made up of people with a disability from ethnic backgrounds and their carers. Through this group ADEC seeks to provide a forum for people to express their views about issues affecting their lives, and how things might be improved.
Multicultural Carer and Disability and Support Program
Language-specific groups offer clients an opportunity to meet regularly for the purposes of social support, information exchange, and education. There are currently 12 carer support groups, and one group of people with disabilities.
Transcultural Mental Health Access Program
The program has two components. Firstly, the program investigates gaps in the mental health system and educates mental health service providers about issues for people from diverse backgrounds.
Secondly, the program conducts language-specific self-help groups. Currently there are Chinese, Vietnamese and Turkish groups.
