Alzheimer’s Australia

Dementia is the term used to describe the symptoms of a large group of illnesses which cause a progressive decline in a person’s functioning including; loss of memory, intellect, rationality, social skills and physical functioning. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia and accounts for around 50-70% of dementia cases.

There are currently more than 260,000 Australians with dementia and without a significant medical breakthrough that number is expected to soar to almost 1 million by 2050.

Alzheimer’s Australia is the peak body for people with dementia and their families and carers and provides support and services through leading edge national dementia programs including; the National Dementia Helpline, counselling, support groups and resources. We are committed to providing leadership in advocacy, policy, services and research.

Alzheimer’s Australia Research (AAR)

Alzheimer’s Australia Research (AAR) was established as the research arm of Alzheimer’s Australia to promote, fund and disseminate research into Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. AAR provides research grants, scholarships, and fellowships to promote Australian dementia research.
