Health-related support organisations and information resources

Australians are well serviced with a large number of special care and information providers, and support groups.

Support organisations range from small local, community-based self-help groups to large, nation-wide networks that have an impact on decision-making about resource allocation and health service provision for their constituents. In addition to support and fellowship for their members, these organisations may focus on public relations - improving awareness about a particular condition or group of illnesses; fundraising for research; consumer advocacy; referral services; networking services; education of members, the general public and professionals; government liaison; equal opportunity matters; accessibility issues relevant to their members; employment opportunities for members; the provision of accommodation, residential and non-residential care for members, and respite services for carers.

Health-related support organisations can participate in this category free.

This category also features information services provided by educational, public, private and not-for-profit organisations.
