James Barker House
The Salvation Army
James Barker House comprises eight residential wings, orbiting four nurse’s stations. There are 120 rooms, communal dining rooms, numerous lounges and living areas and numerous courtyards, balconies, gardens, and water features.
In addition to the aforementioned facilities, there is a dedicated theatre room for screenings of films on DVD, a jukebox, numerous leisure facilities (table tennis and billiards tables) and games, and a Chapel.
For ambulatory residents, JBH is in close proximity to Footscray Railway Station, bus and tram stops. It is near the Seddon Shopping Centre and some 10 minutes’ walk from Footscray’s shopping precinct.
There are regular social events, bus outings, and music concerts. The James Barker House menagerie includes three cats and Charlie the Cockatoo.
All nurses’ stations are administered by qualified Nurses with high levels of expertise. All meals are prepared and cooked fresh on site by our Chef; all laundry is undertaken on site with free labeling of clothes for residents. Disabled facilities are present throughout the complex. A smoking pergola is located in the north eastern corner of the facility grounds and is equipped with a TV, lighting and heating.
