Allied health - Dietitians

Dietitians in Australia work in a variety of roles in the areas of health promotion, prevention and treatment of illness, nutrition optimisation, management of food intake and food selection, and eating behaviour moderation. Dietitians often develop particular expertise in specific areas such as eating disorders, food allergies, weight management, sports nutrition and diabetes.

Most dietitians in Australia are employed by public health care services. About one fifth is in private practice and consulting roles. Some dietitians are employed in the food and wellness industries.

The Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) is the national association of dietitians with branches in each state and territory, representing about 3,000 dietitians. Accredited Practising Dietitians (APD) comply with the Dietitians Association of Australia's guidelines for best practice, are committed to the DAA Code of Professional Conduct and Code of Ethics and to providing quality service for their clients.
