The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare's Nursing and midwifery workforce data indicates that over 300,000 people worked in the profession in 2015. While the number of nurses practising is increasing, nursing shortage remains an issue to be managed.
Nurses are in special demand in Australia's regional and remote areas. Aged care, home care and psychiatric care are growing areas in need of more registered and enrolled nurses. If you are interested in exploring Australia outside the capitals, contact Rural Health Workforce Australia.
Assessment of international nursing qualifications
If you are a nurse with overseas qualifications wanting to work in Australia, contact the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council. The Council performs skills assessment of internationally qualified nurses and midwives for migration purposes.
