Mr Yi Yang

Spine Surgeon, Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Yi Yang is a Melbourne spine surgeon specialising in the care of the spine in both children and adults. His focus is uniquely on the spine, starting from paediatric conditions such as deformity and scoliosis, to traumatic and degenerative conditions later in life.

Mr Yang obtained his medical degree from Monash University, and his fellowship from the Royal Australian College of Surgeons through the Victorian program. Mr Yang has gone on to complete prestigious fellowships in San Diego, California, USA and Toronto, Ontario, Canada where he undertook research and training in complex spine surgery in paediatric and adult spine surgery.

Whilst on fellowship overseas, Mr Yang gained extensive exposure to the latest emerging techniques in spine surgery, including computer navigation for spine surgery, minimally invasive surgery of the spine, tethering for scoliosis and the latest techniques in deformity correction for both children and adults.

Currently, Mr Yang has public appointments at the Royal Children's and Royal Melbourne Hospital where he only recently published and presented at national and international meetings and journals on spinal conditions. These include how tethering for scoliosis changes the vertebral body shape of the patients, biomechanical studies of pedicle screw insertion and the management of spinal cord injuries.
